Lighting Up the Stage in Frome

Tri.Art’s Easter Show at the Merlin Theatre.

Last week, our team made the trip to the vibrant town of Frome to provide lighting and production services for Tri.Art’s Easter Show at the Merlin Theatre – and what a fantastic week it was.

We supplied full lighting hire, design and operation for over 30 dynamic dance numbers, ranging in style and energy. One standout piece was a beautifully choreographed ballet exploring themes of fantasy and fairytales – a visual and emotional highlight of the show. Working closely with the Tri.Art dance team, we designed a series of lighting states and transitions that complemented the narrative of the ballet, using soft washes, warm tones and ethereal effects to transport the audience into an imaginative world. From delicate dreamscapes to bold magical moments, each lighting choice was made to enhance the dancers’ storytelling.

To deliver this, we provided our robust ChamSys MQ70 console for control, giving us flexibility and precision across all lighting cues. This compact yet powerful desk was perfect for the venue and show size, ensuring reliable performance throughout the week.

In addition to lighting, we supported the production with audio and visual playback, using Qlab running on a dedicated Mac to manage sound effects, music, and projection elements. These visuals and sound cues played a key role in many of the pieces, particularly during the ballet, where projection was used subtly to create a sense of depth and wonder.

Collaboration was at the heart of this production – our team worked in tandem with the creative leads at Tri.Art, taking time during technical rehearsals to adjust and refine the visual elements to match each piece’s tone and movement. It’s always a pleasure to be part of a production where the emphasis is on both professionalism and creativity, and Tri.Art delivered both in abundance.
